Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct trademark clearance searches and risk assessments for new brands, logos, slogans, and product names.
  • Prepare, file, and prosecute trademark applications before the USPTO and foreign registries, including responding to office actions.
  • Manage domestic and international trademark portfolios, renewals, assignments, coexistence agreements, and recordals.
  • Draft and negotiate trademark licenses, coexistence agreements, settlement agreements, and related IP contracts.
  • Advise on online brand protection, including domain name disputes (UDRP), social media takedowns, and marketplace enforcement programs.
  • Support trademark enforcement actions, oppositions, cancellations, cease-and-desist campaigns, and anti-counterfeiting initiatives.
  • Collaborate with marketing, product, and commercial teams to ensure brand strategy, packaging, and advertising comply with trademark and unfair competition laws.

Minimum Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school or equivalent legal qualification in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Active bar admission and good standing in at least one U.S. state or applicable jurisdiction, with eligibility for USPTO practice where required.
  • 1–5+ years of experience in trademark or broader IP law at a law firm, boutique IP practice, or in-house legal department (experience range varies by role seniority).
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. trademark law, including the Lanham Act, USPTO procedures, and basic familiarity with international systems such as the Madrid Protocol.
  • Proven experience drafting and reviewing trademark-related documents, including clearance opinions, office action responses, and enforcement correspondence.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters concurrently.
  • Comfort working with business stakeholders, marketing teams, and external counsel on brand strategy and risk mitigation.

  • Experience coordinating international filings and working with foreign counsel on global trademark portfolios.
  • Background in industries such as consumer goods, fashion, entertainment, technology, SaaS, or ecommerce with high-volume brand activity.
