Job Responsibilities
- Provide tax planning and advisory services on corporate, international, and indirect tax matters for businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Structure and review M&A transactions, reorganizations, joint ventures, and financing arrangements for tax efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Draft and analyze tax opinions, memoranda, rulings requests, and technical documentation for complex tax positions.
- Represent clients in tax audits, administrative appeals, and tax controversy or litigation before revenue authorities and courts.
- Collaborate with finance, accounting, and legal teams to design and implement tax-efficient structures, policies, and internal controls.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, treaties, case law, and guidance, and brief clients or internal stakeholders on implications.
- Support transfer pricing analyses, documentation, and intercompany agreements in coordination with economists and tax advisors.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution; an LL.M. in Taxation is strongly preferred for many roles.
- Admission to at least one bar or law society in the relevant jurisdiction, in good standing.
- 1–3 years of experience in tax law for junior roles, 4–7 years for mid-level associates, and 8+ years for senior counsel or partner-track roles.
- Solid grounding in corporate tax, income tax, and key concepts such as permanent establishment, withholding tax, and tax residency.
- Demonstrated experience in researching and applying tax codes, regulations, administrative guidance, and relevant case law.
- Strong drafting skills for tax opinions, transaction documents, and correspondence with tax authorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively with finance, treasury, and accounting stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- LL.M. in Taxation or advanced training in international tax, transfer pricing, or indirect tax (VAT/GST/Sales and Use Tax).
- Experience with cross-border tax planning, treaty analysis, and OECD BEPS/PIllar 1 & Pillar 2 frameworks.
- Background working with or for Big Four firms, financial institutions, private equity, or technology, fintech, and SaaS companies.
- Familiarity with tax research tools and compliance platforms such as Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg Tax, CCH, or similar systems.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex matters, communicate technical concepts to non-lawyers, and work in fast-paced, deal-driven environments.
