Job Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate player contracts, transfer agreements, endorsement deals, and sponsorship contracts for athletes, clubs, and agencies.
- Advise on sports governance, league regulations, eligibility rules, and compliance with national and international sporting bodies.
- Handle media rights, broadcasting agreements, image rights, licensing deals, and digital content distribution arrangements.
- Represent clients in sports-related disputes, including arbitration before CAS and domestic sports tribunals, as well as civil litigation.
- Support investigations and disciplinary proceedings involving anti-doping violations, match-fixing, betting integrity, and code-of-conduct issues.
- Provide day-to-day legal support to clubs, leagues, federations, and sports tech or media companies on commercial, employment, and regulatory questions.
- Monitor changes in sports law, competition law, IP, and data protection that impact sports organizations and advise stakeholders on risk management.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with a JD or LLB from an accredited law school and strong academic performance.
- Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction; admission to the bar in key sports markets is an advantage.
- 1–3 years of post-qualification experience for junior roles, with 5+ years for senior or lead counsel positions.
- Foundational experience in commercial, employment, media, IP, or litigation/arbitration work, ideally with exposure to sports or entertainment clients.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements with attention to detail and risk allocation.
- Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills, including familiarity with arbitration rules and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with high-profile clients, agents, and executives under time pressure.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience advising sports clients such as clubs, leagues, federations, athletes, agents, or broadcasters.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of major sporting bodies (e.g., FIFA, UEFA, IOC, WADA, national associations).
- Familiarity with international arbitration, especially CAS procedures, and cross-border contract enforcement.
- Experience in intellectual property, brand protection, social media, and data/privacy issues in sports and esports.
- Fluency in multiple languages and comfort working across jurisdictions and time zones.
