Job Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and strategic counseling to clients in practice areas such as litigation, corporate, real estate, employment, family, or criminal law.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, leases, and other legal documents under Pennsylvania and federal law.
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials in Allegheny County and surrounding county courts, as well as federal courts in the Western District of Pennsylvania.
- Conduct legal research on statutes, case law, regulations, and municipal codes relevant to Pittsburgh-based individuals, businesses, and institutions.
- Manage case files, maintain accurate documentation, and track deadlines for discovery, filings, and court appearances.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, including intake, communication of case strategy, fee arrangements, and ongoing status updates.
- Collaborate with colleagues, local counsel, expert witnesses, and support staff to prepare cases and deliver efficient, high-quality legal services.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law and good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar; admission to the Western District of Pennsylvania is preferred for litigation roles.
- 1–3 years of legal experience for entry-level associate or staff attorney roles; 4+ years for mid-level and senior positions.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, including experience drafting motions, briefs, and transactional documents.
- Demonstrated familiarity with Pennsylvania civil procedure, criminal procedure, or relevant substantive practice areas.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Professional communication skills and commitment to ethical practice and client confidentiality.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with specific Pittsburgh-focused practice areas such as energy, healthcare, higher education, construction, or manufacturing.
- Background handling complex commercial litigation, M&A transactions, real estate development projects, or union and employment matters.
- Comfort using legal research platforms, e-discovery tools, and case management or document management software.
- Courtroom advocacy experience, including taking and defending depositions, arguing motions, and participating in mediations or arbitrations.
- Existing client base, community ties, or demonstrated business development skills in the Western Pennsylvania market.
