Job Responsibilities
- Support compliance programs by monitoring regulatory developments, drafting policies and procedures, and assisting with internal audits or investigations.
- Review, draft and negotiate commercial contracts, NDAs, vendor agreements and service terms under attorney supervision or established playbooks.
- Analyze statutes, regulations, case law and guidance to summarize legal and regulatory impacts for business, product, or operations teams.
- Design and improve legal operations processes, matter management, billing workflows, playbooks and knowledge management systems.
- Develop policy memos, position papers, risk assessments and briefing materials for executives, regulators, legislators or advocacy stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in finance, HR, product, sales and risk to implement compliance controls and contract standards.
- Prepare training materials and conduct workshops on ethics, data privacy, anti-corruption, employment practices and other regulatory topics.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; bar admission may be preferred but is often not required for non-practicing roles.
- 1–3+ years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, clerkship, compliance, consulting or a closely related professional environment.
- Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex statutes, regulations and contractual language.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organization and time management, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) and comfort working with data, metrics and workflows.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages for legal, business and technical audiences.
- Authorization to work in the relevant jurisdiction and willingness to comply with confidentiality, ethics and conflict-of-interest requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a specialized area such as financial services regulation, healthcare compliance, data privacy, employment law, antitrust or government investigations.
- Background with legal technology, e-billing, contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter management, document automation or knowledge management tools.
- Prior work in consulting, project management, public policy, risk management, corporate strategy or operations-heavy roles.
- Familiarity with agile or lean methodologies, process mapping and continuous improvement frameworks applied to legal and compliance workflows.
- Cross-functional collaboration experience in fast-paced environments such as startups, SaaS, fintech, life sciences, or highly regulated industries.
