Job Responsibilities
- Analyze claims, defenses and evidence to develop litigation strategy and case theory for civil, commercial and regulatory disputes.
- Draft complaints, answers, motions, briefs and other pleadings for federal, state and international forums, including arbitration panels.
- Manage discovery, including written discovery, document review, e-discovery workflows, depositions and coordination with forensic and subject-matter experts.
- Appear in court and arbitration hearings for case management conferences, oral arguments, injunctions, mediations and trials.
- Advise clients, business stakeholders and in-house counsel on case risks, settlement options, litigation reserves and regulatory exposure.
- Negotiate settlements, mediation outcomes and consent orders, and prepare settlement agreements, releases and related documentation.
- Supervise junior associates, paralegals and outside vendors, ensuring high-quality work product, efficient legal project management and compliance with ethical obligations.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license and good standing with at least one state bar; admission to relevant federal courts preferred or required for many roles.
- 1–3 years of litigation experience for junior roles; 4–8+ years for mid-level and senior litigation attorney positions.
- Demonstrated experience in civil or commercial litigation, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery and participating in hearings or motion practice.
- Strong legal research and writing skills, with familiarity using major legal research platforms and court rules.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines and stakeholders, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent advocacy, communication and negotiation skills, including comfort presenting to courts, arbitrators and clients.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with complex litigation such as class actions, multi-district litigation (MDL), cross-border disputes or bet-the-company cases.
- Background in specialized areas such as securities, antitrust, employment, IP, insurance coverage, construction or white-collar defense.
- Proficiency with e-discovery platforms, litigation support tools and legal project management or matter budgeting practices.
- Prior experience appearing as first or second chair in trials, arbitrations, evidentiary hearings or appellate arguments.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with in-house counsel, business executives, experts and multi-jurisdictional legal teams.
