Job Responsibilities
- Interpret laws, regulations, and contractual provisions to advise business units, project teams, or clients on legal and regulatory risk.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, NDAs, service agreements, licensing terms, and policy documents aligned with corporate objectives.
- Design, implement, and monitor compliance programs, internal controls, and governance frameworks across areas such as data privacy, financial services, employment, and ESG.
- Conduct legal and regulatory research, prepare memoranda, prepare briefing notes, and support impact assessments for new legislation or enforcement trends.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, HR, product, risk, audit) to embed legal and compliance requirements into operational processes and product design.
- Develop and deliver training on legal topics, codes of conduct, anti-bribery, sanctions, and other compliance issues to employees and stakeholders.
- Assist with investigations, audits, and regulatory inquiries, including document review, evidence gathering, and drafting responses or remediation plans.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree; a JD, LLB, or equivalent law degree is strongly preferred for most lawyer-adjacent roles.
- Admission to a bar or law society is an advantage and may be required for certain counsel or specialist positions, though some roles accept non-admitted legal professionals.
- 1–3+ years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, compliance department, or relevant regulatory or policy environment.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex statutes, regulations, and contractual language.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professional ethics, integrity, and judgment when handling confidential, sensitive, or privileged information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in a specific regulated industry such as financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, or fintech/insurtech.
- Familiarity with legal technology tools and platforms, including e-discovery software, contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter management, and research databases.
- Background in cross-border regulatory issues, international transactions, sanctions, data protection (GDPR/CCPA), or anti-money laundering (AML).
- Project management capabilities and experience working in matrixed or global organizations, including coordination across time zones and functions.
- Ability to take a pragmatic, business-oriented approach to risk while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
