Job Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on litigation, regulatory, transactional, and compliance matters under California and federal law.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, corporate governance documents, and other legal instruments.
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials before San Diego County courts, California state courts, and relevant administrative agencies.
- Conduct legal research, analyze statutes, regulations, and case law, and prepare memoranda, opinions, and risk assessments for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage case files and deal pipelines, including discovery, evidence collection, witness preparation, and coordination with outside counsel or experts.
- Collaborate with internal business teams, executives, and cross-functional stakeholders to structure transactions, resolve disputes, and implement compliance programs.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, participate in business development activities, and stay current with developments in relevant practice areas.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active license to practice law in California, or eligibility and willingness to become admitted within a defined timeframe.
- 1–3+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, public agency, or judicial clerkship, depending on seniority of the role.
- Strong knowledge of at least one core practice area such as civil litigation, criminal law, corporate and securities, employment, real estate, or regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated proficiency in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy, with examples of drafted pleadings, contracts, or advisory memoranda.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High ethical standards, sound professional judgment, and strong communication skills when interacting with clients, courts, and counterparties.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in specialized practice areas relevant to the San Diego market, such as healthcare, life sciences, military and veterans law, cross-border Mexico–U.S. matters, or technology and SaaS.
- Background in managing complex litigation, class actions, M&A transactions, real estate development projects, or regulatory investigations.
- Comfort with e-discovery platforms, matter management systems, document automation tools, and common legal research platforms.
- Spanish language proficiency or cross-cultural communication skills for clients and matters involving the U.S.–Mexico border region.
- Proven track record of client development, networking within the San Diego legal community, or leadership roles in bar associations or professional organizations.
