Job Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and risk analysis on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and dispute-related matters under federal and New York law.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including NDAs, vendor agreements, financing documents, leases, employment agreements, and settlement agreements.
- Represent clients in litigation, arbitration, mediations, and administrative proceedings in New York courts and forums, including motion practice, discovery, and hearings.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinion letters, and client-ready communications on complex statutory, regulatory, and case law issues.
- Manage transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, financings, real estate purchases and leases, and corporate governance matters from term sheet through closing.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, compliance, HR, and external counsel to design policies, procedures, and training that meet NYC, state, and federal requirements.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, support business development initiatives, and contribute to practice development in targeted industry sectors.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school or foreign equivalent with qualifying credentials.
- Active license to practice law in New York State, or eligibility for admission, limited in-house registration, or pending bar admission where appropriate.
- 1–3 years of experience for junior roles, 4–7 years for mid-level positions, and 8+ years for senior or partner-track roles in relevant practice areas.
- Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills, with demonstrated experience drafting pleadings, contracts, or advisory memoranda.
- Proficiency with core legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law) and standard office productivity tools.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, meet demanding NYC client deadlines, and operate effectively in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with professionalism suited to client-facing interactions and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience at an Am Law firm, reputable boutique, or in-house legal department within finance, fintech, media, technology, or real estate sectors.
- Exposure to cross-border transactions, multi-jurisdictional litigation, or international regulatory frameworks affecting New York-based clients.
- Familiarity with NYC-specific regulations, such as local labor ordinances, rent regulations, zoning rules, or sector-specific licensing requirements.
- Comfort working with contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools, e-discovery platforms, and other legal technology that streamlines workflows.
- Business development mindset, including the ability to identify opportunities, pitch services, and deepen client relationships in the NYC market.
