Job Responsibilities
- Represent clients in civil, commercial, employment, or regulatory litigation in California state and federal courts, including motion practice, discovery, and trials.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts such as service agreements, NDAs, licensing deals, leases, and purchase and sale agreements for LA-based businesses.
- Advise clients on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, labor and employment issues, and industry-specific regulations.
- Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and opinion letters, and translate complex law into practical guidance for clients.
- Manage client relationships, participate in business development activities, and collaborate with internal stakeholders or cross-practice teams on multifaceted matters.
- Coordinate with outside counsel, regulators, and counterparties on investigations, settlements, and regulatory compliance projects affecting California operations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of California law, entertainment industry standards, and local ordinances impacting Los Angeles employers and property owners.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school, with a strong academic record.
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California or eligibility to become licensed promptly.
- 1–3 years of experience for junior and associate roles, or 5+ years of substantive practice for senior associate and counsel positions.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one practice area relevant to Los Angeles markets, such as litigation, corporate, real estate, entertainment, labor and employment, or regulatory.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to draft clear, persuasive documents under deadlines.
- Strong communication and client service skills, including comfort interacting with executives, business teams, or high-profile clients.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and collaboratively in a law firm or in-house environment.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience with California-specific issues such as Proposition 65, wage and hour rules, entertainment guild regulations, or CEQA-related real estate matters.
- Familiarity with cross-border transactions, IP licensing, film and television production contracts, or technology and SaaS agreements common to LA industries.
- Background working with startups, venture-backed companies, studios, or media and entertainment clients in Southern California.
- Proficiency with legal technology tools for e-discovery, case management, contract lifecycle management, and legal research analytics.
- Fluency in another language common in Los Angeles (such as Spanish, Korean, or Mandarin) to support a diverse client base is a plus.
