Job Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on Illinois, federal, and local law to corporate, institutional, and individual clients in the Chicago area.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, settlement agreements, corporate governance documents, leases, and other transactional instruments.
- Represent clients in state and federal court proceedings, arbitrations, mediations, and administrative hearings based in or around Chicago.
- Conduct legal research using tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Bloomberg Law, and prepare memoranda, pleadings, and opinion letters.
- Manage case and deal workflows, including discovery, due diligence, document review, and regulatory filings with state and federal agencies.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, executives, and external counsel to assess legal risk and support strategic initiatives in the Chicago market.
- Develop and maintain client relationships through responsive communication, clear reporting, and proactive legal risk mitigation.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active license to practice law and good standing with the Illinois bar, or eligibility for admission on motion or in-house counsel registration in Illinois.
- 1–5+ years of relevant legal experience in litigation, corporate, real estate, employment, or another core practice area, depending on seniority level.
- Strong knowledge of Illinois civil procedure, contract law, and applicable federal statutes and regulations.
- Proven experience drafting and reviewing complex legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and compliance policies.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and courts.
- Ability to manage multiple Chicago-based matters or transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Chicago-specific legal issues, such as Cook County court practice, municipal regulations, zoning, and local licensing.
- Background supporting industries common in the Chicago region, such as financial services, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, or technology.
- Familiarity with legal technology tools, including e-discovery platforms, document management systems, and contract lifecycle management software.
- Prior experience in both law firm and in-house roles, or demonstrated ability to work closely with business stakeholders on strategic projects.
