Job Responsibilities
- Advise clients on immigration options, eligibility requirements, and legal risks for family-based, employment-based, and humanitarian benefits.
- Prepare, review, and file immigration petitions, applications, and supporting evidence with USCIS, EOIR, DOS, DOL, and related agencies.
- Represent clients in immigration court, bond hearings, asylum interviews, and adjustment or naturalization interviews, including drafting briefs and motions.
- Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, policy guidance, and case law to support case strategy and written advocacy.
- Manage a high-volume caseload, track deadlines, and maintain organized, accurate client files using immigration case management software.
- Communicate regularly with clients, employers, and third parties to gather facts, explain case status, and set expectations in a clear and culturally sensitive manner.
- Collaborate with colleagues, interpreters, and support staff to ensure high-quality, efficient delivery of immigration legal services.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school or equivalent foreign legal qualification where applicable.
- Active license to practice law and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar or relevant jurisdiction.
- 1–3+ years of experience in immigration law, including direct work on visa petitions, green card applications, or removal defense (more for senior roles).
- Solid knowledge of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), relevant regulations (CFR), and agency policy guidance impacting immigration benefits and enforcement.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, including experience drafting briefs, motions, and detailed client declarations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously, meet strict filing deadlines, and work effectively with diverse client populations.
- Professional fluency in English and strong verbal communication skills; additional language skills are often required or highly preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in specific immigration subfields such as business immigration (H-1B, L-1, PERM), asylum and humanitarian relief, or deportation and removal defense.
- Proficiency with immigration case management and e-filing tools (e.g., LawLogix, INSZoom, Docketwise, Clio, or comparable platforms).
- Fluency in one or more additional languages commonly encountered in immigration practice, enabling effective client communication and intake.
