Job Responsibilities
- Counsel clients on eligibility for family-based, employment-based, investor, and humanitarian immigration benefits, including asylum and refugee status.
- Prepare, review, and file immigration petitions, applications, and supporting evidence with USCIS, DOS, DOL, and related agencies.
- Represent clients in immigration court and at administrative hearings, including removal defense, bond hearings, and appeals.
- Draft legal briefs, motions, and opinion letters analyzing immigration statutes, regulations, policy guidance, and case law.
- Coordinate with HR, talent acquisition, and global mobility teams on visa strategy, I-9 compliance, and work authorization for foreign national employees.
- Communicate case strategy, timelines, and risks to clients and stakeholders, maintaining accurate case management records and deadlines.
- Monitor changes in immigration law, agency policy, and consular practices, updating internal processes and client advisories accordingly.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (or foreign equivalent where applicable).
- Foundational knowledge of U.S. immigration law, including family-based, employment-based, and humanitarian categories.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with experience drafting motions, briefs, or detailed client correspondence.
- Excellent client communication skills, including the ability to explain complex immigration concepts in clear, practical terms.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and jurisdictional requirements.
- For many roles, 1–3 years of experience in immigration law, removal defense, or related regulatory practice; senior positions may require 5+ years.
Preferred Skills
- Fluency in a second language commonly used in immigration practice (such as Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, or French).
- Experience with removal defense, asylum and refugee claims, waivers of inadmissibility, and appeals before the BIA or federal courts.
- Familiarity with employment-based immigration for tech, SaaS, fintech, healthcare, or higher education employers, including H-1B, L-1, O-1, and PERM.
- Proficiency with immigration case management software, document automation tools, and virtual client communication platforms.
- Background working with nonprofits, legal aid organizations, or community groups serving immigrant populations, including trauma-informed client counseling.
