Job Responsibilities
- Advise clients on Minnesota and federal laws affecting business operations, employment practices, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, corporate governance documents, and other legal instruments.
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and state and federal court proceedings, including case preparation, discovery, and oral advocacy.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on statutes, regulations, case law, and administrative guidance relevant to client matters.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, business units, or external clients to assess legal risk, develop strategies, and implement practical solutions.
- Manage case files, matter timelines, billing, and documentation in accordance with firm or corporate policies and professional responsibility rules.
- Participate in business development, client pitches, bar association activities, and community outreach to expand professional networks and client relationships.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active license to practice law and good standing with the Minnesota State Bar, or eligibility for admission on motion/reciprocity where applicable.
- 1–5+ years of relevant legal experience in litigation, corporate, regulatory, real estate, employment, or related practice areas, depending on role seniority.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with demonstrated experience drafting complex legal documents and pleadings.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers and collaborate with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to professional ethics, client confidentiality, and compliance with Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in Minnesota-specific practice areas such as insurance defense, healthcare regulation, banking and finance, or commercial real estate.
- Background handling complex litigation, class actions, or high-value commercial disputes in state or federal court.
- Prior in-house counsel experience, or experience partnering closely with business, compliance, HR, or operations teams.
- Familiarity with legal technology platforms, e-discovery tools, document management systems, and AI-assisted legal research.
- Portable book of business, client development track record, or demonstrated aptitude for networking in the Minnesota legal market.
